My Day as a Student – Elias Hamwi, Student Ambassador

Hi everyone, my name is Elias, and I'm a student at Kangan Institute pursuing a Diploma of Community Services (CHC52021). Like many of you, I wasn't always here. Eighteen months ago, I made the big move to Australia, and starting at Kangan Institute was a big part of adapting to my new life.

Community has always been an important part of my life. Back home, I worked as a manager of a humanitarian relief and community development program, and here, I concluded that I wanted a career that allowed me to give back to the community that embraced me with wide arms. The Diploma of Community Services (CHC52021) at Kangan Institute offered the perfect blend of theory and practical experience, preparing me to work with diverse communities and make a positive impact.

New starts are never easy, it could make us feel lost in the crowd. But at Kangan Institute, you don't have to go through it alone and this is what I love the most about Kangan Institute. Coming from a different background, I was a little worried about fitting in. But Kangan Institute has this incredible sense of community. My classmates are from all different backgrounds and the teachers are incredibly patient, understanding and culturally respective.

Beyond the classroom, Kangan Institute offers so many valuable resources. I discovered that all students could participate in the Computer Club, which provide help to improve digital skills, and the English Conversation Club, perfect for practicing English in a relaxed setting. There's even a Phone Skills session coming up soon – who knew there was so much to learn about smartphones!

Let's be honest, student life can be stressful. Balancing classes, assignments, and maybe a job in between can be overwhelming. But Kangan Institute goes beyond academics. They have services like counselling, financial assistance, and disability support, which take a huge weight off your shoulders. The TalkCampus app is another brilliant resource – it allows students to anonymously connect and talk through any concerns. It's a safe space to vent, seek advice, or simply find a community of understanding students.

Let's be real, there will be challenges. Upcoming placements can be nerve-wracking, and finalising assignments can feel like a constant juggling act. My advice? Don't be afraid to use the resources available. Talk to your teachers, connect with classmates, and explore the support services offered by Kangan Institute.

Kangan Institute has been a springboard for my new life in Australia.  It's more than just a place to learn – it's a supportive community that empowers you to succeed. So, to all the new students out there, I say welcome! Take a deep breath, reach out for help when needed, and enjoy the journey.""
