If you are a newly arrived non-English speaking migrant and need help with your basic English, the Certificate II in EAL (Access) course will prepare you with the English language skills you'll need to continue to other English as a Second Language (ESL) courses at a higher level.
This course is also delivered as part of the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP). The program helps new migrants learn basic English skills that will assist them to successfully and confidently participate socially and economically in Australian society.

An assessment prior to commencement will help determine at what level you join the course.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will know in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. There is the opportunity for reassessment and appeal and you will be given this information.
What will I study?
You will study English language including speaking, listening, reading, writing, non-verbal communication and settlement topics.
What Skills will I have when I complete this course?
The Certificate II in EAL is the next step up from the Certificate I in EAL and will enhance the language skills of students undertaking the course. The course will prepare them for further studies and the pursuit of the next level English course, as well as providing them with English language skills that will help them find better job opportunities.
English language skills gained will include listening, speaking, reading and writing.

This course is delivered as part of the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP).
Migrants can now stay in the program longer and the previous 510-hour cap has been removed. People who were previously not eligible may now be eligible.

Employment Opportunities
While this course does not provide direct employment outcomes, it prepares students of a non-English speaking background with the English language skills needed to access VET Training and employment.
Upon completion, students will have access to a wide range of TAFE courses to pursue training and a career of their choice in the same supportive environment that they undertook their English studies in.

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Certificate II in EAL (Access). This program is nationally recognised as part of the Australian Qualifications Framework.

There are no pre-requisites for this course. To apply for Certificate II in EAL (access) you need to contact the Centre for Foundation and Language Skills on 1300 675 676 to book an assessment interview which will determine current language and literacy levels and course eligibility
