A first look: Hume Tech School design revealed

Innovative designs for the new Hume Tech School have been unveiled, showcasing the state-of-the-art facility that will benefit more than 20,000 students across the region.

Set to open in mid-2026 with Kangan Institute as tertiary partner, Hume Tech School will provide free high-tech, hands-on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs to local secondary school students.

Hume Tech School will bring schools, industries and TAFE together to create an empowering and dynamic environment for learners. Students will take on real-world problems design their own solutions and get the skills they need for emerging jobs and industries.

Programs will focus on key STEM related study and career options, such as advanced manufacturing, automation, health care, renewable energy, construction, transport and logistics and data analytics.

Centrally located at Kangan Institute’s Broadmeadows campus, and designed in consultation with students, local schools, First Nations Elders, industry and community groups, the Hume Tech School will be:

• a living laboratory with interactive learning integrated into the building design.

• designed to accommodate more than 100 students and staff at any time.

• a leading sustainable building.

• a site for STEM resource development for local schools and a hub of innovation between schools and industry.

Hume is one of Australia’s fastest growing communities, with the city’s population expected to grow by nearly 50% over the next two decades. The new Hume Tech School will be accessible to students from all 25 secondary schools within the Hume local government area.

The $15.47 million project is funded by the Victorian Government, with the facility designed by Brand Architects and builder expected to be appointed in April 2025.
