Career advisors get creative at Richmond campus

Career advisors and teachers from over ten secondary schools had a unique opportunity to explore Kangan Institute’s Centre for Fashion and Creative Industries in Richmond on 19 May.

The day’s program incorporated tours of the campus’ new National Textile and Design Archive, the Textile and Fashion Hub, the visual merchandising studio exhibitions as well as the hair and beauty salon.

A highlight was the special presentation about the campus’ extensive fabric collection by Tony Cardamone. Tony is one of Australia’s leading interior designers who recently donated his lifetime of interior design samples and reference books to Kangan Institute.

As a special treat, participants also enjoyed an express manicure at the campus’ dedicated beauty salon and had the chance to take home a bag printed at the Hub.

According to Julie McClimont, Kangan Institute’s schools relationship partner, the tour was aimed at providing career advisors and teachers with a firsthand understanding of how students can benefit from the facilities, programs and services at the campus.

“We wanted to create a memorable opportunity for teachers to experience firsthand our campuses, courses and teaching staff. They can then share these experiences with their students and help them understand the wealth of options here at Kangan Institute,” she said.

“Richmond campus in particular is not well known amongst many of our local schools and it provides so many amazing opportunities and facilities for study in a great location.”

Participating career advisors said the tour provided greater insight to students’ options and pathways at Kangan Institute.

Northcote High School’s career practitioner Kylie Witt also highlighted that “it was great to meet so many of your dedicated teachers”.

Kangan Institute is committed to continuing to build long-term relationships with schools. Our dedicated Schools Team provides a single point of contact for career advisors to help ensure that they have easy access to information about our training programs and support services.

The team is planning future career advisors tours at the Docklands, Broadmeadows and Bendigo campuses. To find out more visit kangan.edu.au/schools or call the Schools Team on 1300 423 883.
