A virtual reality immersion gallery, multi-bed hospital and aged care simulation suites and specialist health labs will soon be part of Kangan Institute’s Broadmeadows campus.
The concrete foundation of the campus’ new $60 million Health and Community Centre of Excellence has been completed, with newly released design renders of the facility featuring a bold, future-focused and sustainable facility tailored for the health and community workforce of tomorrow.
Funded by the Victorian Government, construction for the facility began in March with Architectus and Hutchinson Builders appointed to lead the works.
The state-of-the-art centre is set to open in 2025, delivering courses in high priority areas such as aged care, mental health, disability, pathology, allied health, and early childhood education and care.
Sally Curtain, Chief Executive Officer at Kangan Institute, said the new facility is designed with the future and community in mind.
“Through strong collaboration with industry and local partners, the Health and Community Centre of Excellence is designed to be a game changer for aspiring health and community workers in Melbourne’s north,” said Ms Curtain.
“It’s a centre built with community for the community, ensuring locals have the opportunity to access state-of-the-art training facilities as they prepare for in-demand jobs of tomorrow.”
Ruth Wilson, Principal Clients + Communications at Architectus, said the upcoming centre heralds the start of a new era for vocational education in Broadmeadows.
“The new building makes the most of the park setting and opens itself to the community, showing all the interesting activities occurring within. Architectus is privileged to be part of this confident first step in a new era of vocational education on the Broadmeadows campus,” Ruth said.
The new building will feature:
· A multi-purpose virtual reality immersion gallery.
· Flexible learning spaces.
· State-of-the-art laboratories.
· Hospital, aged care, bariatric care, home care and early childhood simulation suites.
· Environmentally sustainable features.
· A joint landscaping approach with the Town Park for a seamless connection between public space and campus.
Kangan Institute has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with local healthcare providers, including DPV Health and Northern Health, to support future training needs.
Students studying at the centre will also have access to placements through partnerships between Kangan Institute and providers.
