Great chefs from class of 87 reunite at Broadmeadows campus

Melbourne's leading chefs from Kangan Institute's Class of '87 reunited at Broadmeadows campus' Richards Restaurant on 5th June 2012 to create a sensational five-course feast.

The Great Chefs Table Dinner event featured the culinary expertise of Adrian Richardson, owner and head chef of the successful La Luna Bistro in North Carlton.

He was accompanied by Dean Henwood, Executive Chef at Roselyn Court Reception Centre; Debra Smith, Executive Chef at Etihad Stadium; and Gary Paterson, Academy Sofitel Projects Manager.

With current Kangan Institute students working under their direction, the former apprentices each created a unique course for the night, every one served with matching wine. Students will also receive a lesson in coffee making.

All program participants will receive a certificate of appreciation upon completion of the program. The chefs took the opportunity to chat with diners and share their culinary inspiration, with Adrian thanking all Kangan Institute staff, students and guests for their part in making the evening a memorable and successful event.

"To be able to come back here to Kangan where we began is just a testament to what a great institute this is and what great staff and students there are at this TAFE," said Adrian. "Being tradesmen or tradeswomen, our job is to pass on our skills and that is probably the most important thing. By being here tonight, we hope to give students a taste of what is possibly in the future for them and to give them a choice, a chance and some ideas."

The evening's courses included 'Seafood trilogy', 'Elements of Winter', 'Texan spicy beef ribs', all topped off with 'Chocolate and sugar' for dessert.

Kangan Institute's apprenticeship and traineeship programs span across a wide range of study areas, with training delivered at specialist facilities to help students gain the relevant skills for successful futures.
