Bendigo TAFE and Kangan Institute | Certificate III Course

Love beer? Want to know how to make beer? How about a career in the beer industry?

Well your dream has come true. Bendigo TAFE and Kangan Institute are now offering a Certificate III in Food Processing (Micro-Brewing) (FBP30117).

Nicole Broe, Director – Food and Fibre Centre of Excellence at Bendigo TAFE and Kangan Institute, said this is the first time a Certificate III course in Micro-Brewing has been offered by a Victorian TAFE provider.

“Until now budding brewers in Victoria could only quench their thirst for education in brewing by studying at university, which is great if you want to be a head brewer but not so great if you’re seeking a qualification to secure an entry level role in micro-brewing,” explained Ms Broe.

“Bendigo TAFE and Kangan Institute (Broadmeadows campus) have now filled this gap in the market by offering a Certificate III in Food Processing (Micro-Brewing) (FBP30117),” said Ms Broe.

“Our course delivery will be blended including online theory, industry placements and practicals on campus and with industry partners, like Bendigo Brewing - a new microbrewery that will open next year in the heart of Bendigo,” said Ms Broe.

Trevor Birks of Bendigo Brewing said the McCrae Street site of Bendigo Brewing is steeped in brewing history.

“In the 1860s the site of Bendigo Brewing is where Slattery’s Brewery was before the Hunter brothers took over the premises and established their Kent Brewery,” said Mr Birks.

“In 2021 we’re looking forward to welcoming the Bendigo TAFE students to Bendigo Brewing, where our industry professionals will play a role in teaching them their craft on the very site where brewing was pioneered in the region,” added Mr Birks.

According to the Brewers Association of Australia, 85 per cent of beer sold in Australia is made in Australia, and for every job in Aussie brewing another 21.6 jobs are created economy wide.

“Brewing a is thriving industry, the CraftBeer Reviewer recently reported that there are 550 physical breweries across Australia,” said Ms Broe

“Goldstein Research also revealed that the craft beer market is predicted to grow 5.3 per cent by 2025, which provides our students with great employment prospects,” Ms Broe concluded.
