Campuses
Kangan Institute’s staff have been shortlisted in two categories for the prestigious 2014 Victorian Training Awards.
VET Client Service/Support Excellence Award, finalist: NEXT STEP team
Operating out of the Broadmeadows and Richmond campuses, the unique NEXT STEP service assists 15 to 24 year olds who are looking for individualised advice on course and pathway options based on their interests, help with navigating TAFE, career planning support and referrals to relevant services.
VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year, finalist: Julie Wray-McCann, Learning Support teacher
Julie’s career as a VET teacher commenced ten years ago when she began teaching certificate courses in a community adult education centre. Currently a Learning Support teacher for VCE, VCAL, Trades and one-to-one support at Kangan Institute’s Broadmeadows campus, Julie is inspired every day by working with students of all ages and backgrounds to improve their educational and employment outcomes.
Her proudest achievement is the development of the VCE TAFE study skills program specifically designed to support students with closing learning gaps, maintaining their goals and keeping engaged with their current study choice.
Now in their 60th year, the Victorian Training Awards promote and reward outstanding achievement and innovation in vocational education and training. They also acknowledge the strong partnerships between training providers and Victorian businesses which are vital to providing a strong skills base for Victoria.
Other 2014 finalists include students, apprentices, trainees, teachers, employers, support staff and training organisations from across the state. Winners will go on to represent Victoria at the Australian Training Awards in Adelaide.
The awards ceremony will be held on Friday 26th September. Click here for more information about the awards and finalists.
