As one of the state's largest providers of apprenticeship and traineeship training, Kangan Institute has strong relationships with many hospitality businesses and caters for students seeking industry-relevant training.

With more than 80 years of experience in vocational education and training, we're a flexible, innovative and dynamic place of learning with a rich multicultural atmosphere and our commitment to providing training and education to the north-west sector of Melbourne remains unrivalled. Melbourne's leading chefs and Kangan Institute Alumni recently reunited at Broadmeadows campus' Richards Restaurant in June 2012 to create a sensational five-course feast.

The Great Chefs Table Dinner (as the event was titled) featured the culinary expertise of Adrian Richardson, owner and head chef of the successful La Luna Bistro in North Carlton. Debra Smith, another Kangan Institute alumnus, was also present and held a cook-off with Adrian and others. Debra has been the executive chef for Delaware North companies Australia at Etihad Stadium for over six years. She completed her apprenticeship at Kangan Institute in 1989 and now has 27 years of experience in the industry. "I'm very excited to hear that Kangan Institute will be continuing their courses," she said. "My apprenticeship there planted the seeds to my current success and helped shape my future - it's great that others will continue to have the same opportunity!" Our nationally recognised courses are designed for students seeking a career in cookery (commercial or otherwise) and provide the skills, knowledge and experience in practical food production, OHS, team work, nutrition and more. Our patisserie apprenticeship serves up modern and traditional patisserie production techniques with students graduating with highly creative artisan skills in areas that include pastries, cakes, gateaux and yeast goods.
