Qantas - Skills Recognition graduates - Kangan Institute

Kangan Institute and Qantas held a graduation ceremony on 13th November 2012 to recognise the achievements of Qantas employees who have successfully completed Skills Recognition with Kangan Institute as part of the Qantas Career Transition program.

More than 100 graduates, staff, family and friends attended the ceremony held at the Royal Melbourne Zoo. Kangan Institute CEO Ray Griffiths congratulated all graduates and expressed his delight at the Institute's role in their success.

"One of our key drivers is the concept of learning for life - to maximise every opportunity to improve, discover new ways of doing things, and make a real difference to not just your own career path but also within your field of work," he said. "Today's graduates are proof that this is all possible and Kangan Institute is proud to be the VET partner in helping you achieve your well-deserved qualification."

The Skills Recognition process meant that staff with relevant skills and work experience could receive credits towards a certificate and reduce their overall training time.

As one of Victoria's largest training providers in aviation and engineering, Kangan Institute was also well-positioned to provide staff with the gap training needed to fulfil the requirements of a qualification.

John Sipek, one of the evening's graduates, took the opportunity to deliver a warm thank you speech to Kangan Institute and the Qantas Career Transition Team. "I entered the program with the expectation that my skills and experience would provide me with a certificate III; I was also hopeful of acquiring a Certificate IV in Aeroskills," he said. "At the completion of the program - which required several meetings with Kangan Institute staff, consultations with industry experts and skills assessors, my 17 years of experience with Qantas Engineering, life experience and knowledge in the community - I now have a Certificate IV in Aeroskills and hold a national accredited Advanced Diploma of Business Management."

John attributed his success to the Qantas Engineering Career Transition Team and Kangan Institute. "This process exceeded all my expectations. Without the support by the Qantas Engineering Career Transition Team and Kangan Institute, I would never have obtained my new qualification."

Kangan Institute can recognise the skills of individuals or work with organisations to help staff gain the qualification they deserve based on their existing experience and knowledge. Visit our Skills Recognition page for more information.
