Preparing for your future career while studying

Balancing studies and preparing for your future career can be challenging, but with the right steps, you can set yourself up for success. At Kangan Institute’s Employment Centre, we’re here to help you every step of the way.

Did you know that 79.5%* of TAFE graduates in Victoria find employment after completing their studies? This highlights how vocational training not only builds skills but also creates real job opportunities. Here are some essential tips to prepare yourself for the job market, including how to ace interviews and explore the opportunities available through our new Job Vacancy List.

1. Start building your skills early

Employers value candidates with practical experience, so take advantage of opportunities to build your skills while studying. Volunteer for projects, join clubs, or take up casual jobs related to your field. Not only will this enhance your resume, but it will also show future employers your initiative and adaptability.

2. Craft a standout resume and cover letter

Your resume and cover letter are your first impression with potential employers. Highlight your education, skills, and any relevant experience. Be clear, concise, and tailor each application to the specific job. If you’re unsure where to start, visit the Employment Centre for guidance.

3. Master the job interview

Interviews can be nerve-wracking, but preparation is key:

  • Research the company: Understand their mission, values, and what they’re looking for in a candidate.
  • Practice common questions: Prepare answers to questions like “Tell me about yourself” and “What are your strengths and weaknesses?”
  • Dress appropriately: Choose professional attire that aligns with the role and company culture.
  • Show enthusiasm: Employers want to see genuine interest in the position and the company.

4. Register for our new job vacancy list
