While caring for her grandfather, Chiara found care work fulfilling. “The gratitude was a really nice feeling”, she says.
Chiara took the next step of preparing to work in the sector. She searched online and found many courses. Her mother recommended the Certificate III in Individual Support (CHC33015) through Kangan Institute.
The course was starting the day after Chiara applied. “The experience applying online was easy and simple”, she says. After applying, she received an email and a call from the Health team, guiding her through the application and funding process.
Chiara completed a Certificate III in Individual Support at Kangan Institute and found placement at Dorothy Impey Home. Her favourite part about studying online was the passionate teachers. “All the stories they had and the knowledge and the fact that they were really passionate. You can tell when someone is passionate when they really are”, she says.
She found the classroom experience engaging. “We were encouraged to talk and participate and ask as many questions as we want", she says. Chiara also met peers who were passionate, caring, and empathetic.
